Tip of the Day: Squirrel Deterrant

TIP OF THE DAY πŸŽƒπŸΏ

Squirrels tend to destroy porch pumpkins in a matter of days! To prevent these little guys from nibbling into your decor, spritz equal parts vinegar and water on the outside of the pumpkins and surrounding area. They won’t come near them because of the smell!

Other Ways to Keep Squirrels Away from Your Pumpkins

Use a Natural Repellent – Spray pumpkins with a mixture of water and hot sauce, vinegar, or garlic. The strong scent and taste deter squirrels.

Try a DIY Citrus Spray – Squirrels dislike the smell of citrus. Spritz your pumpkins with a mix of water and lemon or orange essential oil.

Sprinkle Spices Around the Pumpkin – Cayenne pepper, cinnamon, or black pepper can make pumpkins less appealing. Reapply after rain.

Apply a Coat of Hairspray or Petroleum Jelly – A slick surface makes pumpkins harder for squirrels to chew on.

Use Scents They Hate – Mothballs or coffee grounds placed near pumpkins can discourage squirrels.

Decorate with Fake Predators – Owls, snakes, or even motion-activated lights can scare them off.

Keep Pumpkins Off the Ground – Elevate them on a sturdy stand or place them inside a decorative lantern or cage.

Offer a Distraction – Set out a small dish of nuts or corn away from your porch to lure squirrels elsewhere.
