Aster
Flower Spotlight: ASTER 🌼
A few fun facts about one of our favorite autumn blooms!
⭐️ The name “aster” comes from the Latin word astrum, which means “star”.
🌿 The aster has a rich, deeply rooted presence in Greek mythology. They were believed to be sacred plants, used in decorative wreaths and altar displays to honor the gods.
🌻 Many people mistake the aster for a daisy; however, the aster is actually a member of the sunflower family!
☀️ Most asters are herbaceous perennials, meaning they will die back to the ground in Winter and emerge again in the late Spring or Summer!
🐝 They provide late-season food for pollinators.
And, not sure why...but the stores ALWAYS push the sales of chrysanthemums (mums) in the Fall, but pollinators aren’t attracted to them! Why not push the sale of asters, which come up year after year AND pollinators love them? Hmmm…
