Beneficial Ladybugs

GARDEN FRIENDS: THE LADYBUG 🐞

Ladybugs are very beneficial to gardens (both flower and edible), as they eat pests: aphids, mites, scales, thrips, and white flies.

And…they’re friendly and cute!

Fun fact: one ladybug can eat up to FIFTY aphids each day! When you see them in your garden, that’s a good thing…and good luck! (If you believe in that sort of thing…)

Why Ladybugs Are Beneficial

Natural Pest Control – Ladybugs are voracious predators, which reduces the need for chemical pesticides.
Protects Plants – By feeding on harmful insects, ladybugs help keep plants healthy and thriving.
Eco-Friendly – Encouraging ladybugs in your garden supports a natural, chemical-free approach to pest management.
Pollination Helpers – While not primary pollinators, ladybugs can contribute to pollination as they move between flowers.

How to Attract Ladybugs to Your Yard

- Plant Flowers & Herbs – Ladybugs love nectar-rich plants like dill, fennel, marigolds, and yarrow.
- Avoid Pesticides – Chemical sprays can harm ladybugs and their food sources.
- Provide Shelter – Mulch, shrubs, and bug houses give ladybugs a safe place to thrive.
- Leave Some Aphids – A small aphid population ensures ladybugs have enough food to stay in your yard.

Ladybugs are a gardener’s best friend, helping to maintain a healthy, pest-free landscape naturally!
